A single room may be charged separately even when the birth itself is publicly funded. The official page for the obstetrics and gynaecology unit at Mater Salutis Hospital in Legnago, in the province of Verona, was updated on 11 May 2026 and lists a single room at €77 plus VAT per night.

This is the tariff for one specific unit, not a national price. Availability depends on room occupancy, so confirm the cost, availability and booking process with your chosen maternity unit before admission.

How much does the chosen doctor cost for childbirth

If you want a particular gynaecologist to attend the birth, ask for two documents: the hospital estimate and an attendance agreement with the doctor. The agreement should state the fee, replacement arrangements for illness or a simultaneous birth, night and weekend attendance, and what happens if a vaginal birth changes to an emergency caesarean.

Private pregnancy appointments pay only for antenatal care. The clinic may charge separate fees for the doctor’s attendance, a chosen midwife, anaesthetist and neonatologist. Add these to the room and hospital package to obtain a realistic total that can be compared with the insurance limit.

The cost of childbirth for a tourist in Italy

If you are lawfully in Italy on a visa or under a visa-free arrangement and are not enrolled in the public health service, the hospital will check your passport, insurance policy and payment guarantee before a planned birth.
